The Independence Day reminds us a new era, to start a new life free from slavery. This year we are celebrating 75th Independence Day 2022. 15th August, 1947 marked the end of British colonialism. Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of India who declared India’s as a Independence country. Jawaharlal Nehru, said, “At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.” This line captured the struggle and happiness of newly-independent country. Independence Day is remembered and celebrated religiously across India as the citizens commemorate the struggle for freedom.

Significance

Independence Day is celebrated throughout India with grand ceremonies on Red Fort including raising the National Flag, Parades, speeches/skits on freedom fighters and various movements, traditional dances, drills, competitions, singing the National Anthem and more on. The day is recognised as a national pride and honour for India.

The day is celebrated in commemoration and honour of all the people who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country, India. In New Delhi, the capital of India, which the most magnificent of celebrations happen. The preparations for this day are extraordinary. Prime Minister of India addresses to the Nation on the eve of Independence Day. The events of Independence day start with the hoisting of the National flag then 21 honorary gunshots and the National Anthem.

The Prime Minister gives a speech about the struggles and achievements of our forefathers. It content various events, including the march past of the army and a showcase of the cultures, traditions and specialties of the different states of India. Everyone across the country witnesses the celebrations in person, on television or social media platforms and feels proud to be a citizen of India.

Why we celebrate Independence Day?

August 15, 1947 is the day that marked the end of British rule and the commencement of democratic rule in India. When we celebrate this day every year, we commemorate the efforts of all those who fought for independence regardless of their own lives.
